The proposal for the new Holmenkollen ski jump is rooted in an analysis and understanding of two vital aspects of the project.

The first is that of the sport itself. The jump itself must be seen as one fluid movement from the moment the jumper begins his in run to the point where he is again motionless. No single point along the trajectory can be considered in isolation. This principle can be summed up as follows:

One movement, one form, one object.

This relationship between the individual and the collective has been a defining concept in the development of the project. It is particularly important when one considers the second aspect of Snøhettas proposal, Holmenkollen unique position in national and international ski jumping history. It is often said that Holmenkollen is the home of ski jumping and it is telling that the hill is to be rebuilt yet again on the same site even though weather conditions here have always been problematic.
